Chapter 6

Of course I was still drunk when I got home. More than tipsy, but not blackout, falling-down shitfaced. I felt pretty damn good, especially since I had a date with Courtney.

Oh my God I have a date with Courtney.

Giddy—and it wasn’t just the booze—I grinned like an idiot as I shrugged off my jacket and hung up my keys. I really, really wanted to gush to Aiden about her and the evening and everything, but he was gone. Not that I was surprised. He’d been heading out at the same time I did, and I figured he was either at a club or meeting someone from Grindr. After a week of dealing with undergrads and a snarly lazy jackass of a professor, who could blame him for wanting to blow off steam by… well… blowing as many guys as he could get his hands on.

Well, I’d tell him in the morning, assuming he was here. Wouldn’t that be a switch? Both of us rambling on about our awesome nights? I’d been living vicariously through him ever since we’d moved here, aside from that one girl I’d hooked up with last summer and the girlfriend I’d had for all of two weeks around Halloween.

For the moment, I needed to guzzle some water—anything to stave off the inevitable hangover—and get some sleep. Then, in the morning, while we both clung to coffee cups and grumbled behind sunglasses, Aiden and I could chat.

And tomorrow night… Courtney.

I actually giggled into the silence of the kitchen. Out loud. And I didn’t even feel stupid about it, because hey, when was the last time I’d felt this good?
